The beginning of 1995 saw the Evolution IIs still in action, and two of these years' cars - M5 & M6 MRE - debuted as such cars. The Evolution III was homologated on 1st April, and after that, all the works cars have been entered as such. New was basically every aerodynamic component of the car, with the distinctive new front bumper and rear spoiler they improved high-speed stability and cooling effectiveness. New restrictor size (reduction from 38 to 34 mm) meant the cars had less power, but its delivery was smoother than before. Transmission-wise, new electromagnetic active diffs were used front and centre, but with varying degree of success, especially over jumps, where the system was switching the drive between the front and rear diffs unnecessary, causing the car to become unstable.
