The Lancer Evoution IV was a brand new car - in street and in rally trim as well. Many parts were new, mainly due to the huge differences to the former car, and also some innovations - like the sequential gearbox. The car turned out to be a success, and could win in 1998 as well, on the brink of the Evo V's debut. This was the last, classic, within-every-Gr.A-rule car for Mitsubishi, and some have survived well into the Evo VI era (P55 MRE for example), and many components were carried over to later models, like wiring, radiator, etc.
I see a rare version in the Great Britain Rally 1998, its P745 DAB. Museum version?

Hi!
VálaszTörlésThat car is by no means is anything more than a show car; it is RHD, the suspension is almost road car-ish. I guess they just decorated that car for some reason. From that picture, it seems like this to me anyways... but a good catch, never seen that video before, will certainly check it out!

Great info on the EvoIV/V test cars M9 MRE & P22 MRE.
VálaszTörlésI have another interesting works reg number for you, although it is not a groupA rally car. But in the P-registered cars here from P2/P22 etc ending at P6 MRE, wouldn't the next reg be P66 MRE? Well, it exists, it was Richard Burns' private company car in 1997 and then he handed it to his codriver Robert Reid in 1998, who kept it for a few years.
