On the 1993 Rallye Monte-Carlo, one of the most successful stories in
rallying history began when the first Lancer Evos appeared. At the time,
the Lancer was the lightest A8 machine of all, but other aspects of the
car - even though the Lancia Delta Integrale was heavily studied during
the road car's development, and many components were carried over fro
the Galant - were not quite up to the task yet. There were some changes
during the season: new roofscoop and door mirrors after a couple of
events, wider track from Greece onwards to name a few, but nagging
problems included underside engine protection and not enough power.
Still, the team got two podiums from seven starts, not bad for a brand
new car.
