Mitsubishi's WRCars: The Group A Kit Lancers

In this section, we will try to unearth one of the most forgotten yet interesting parts of the Lancer Gr.A history. Equally expensive, yet not much better than a home built car, "Group A Kit" Lancers were indeed very rare, and often came and went in a heartbeat. However, some programmes completed with this car featured Andrea Aghini in Italy, Michal Gargulak in Slovakia and Czechia, or Ali Ersin in Turkey. Some cars are still with us, just they hide it very well.

Some background: in 1999, Ralliart decided to launch a kit for the ever growing demand of factory Group A Lancers, which allowed the customer to make their own version of the championship winning cars.It featured some of the parts of the works cars (X-Trac 6 speed sequential gearbox), in many areas it was far, far away from the factory cars (no active diffs, years old specification, etc). The whole kit cost 35 million yen (including a base car /Lancer Evo RS/)!

Oddly, many of these cars were built through private Ralliart partners, not Ralliart factory team itself. Co-Ordsport, Mellors Elliot Motorsport and couple others were the main partners of Ralliart here.
